To Catch (One's ) Eye[引起注意] In English we say, "The eyes are the window of the soul." By gazing into someone's eyes, we hope to see what they are truly feeling. Dishonest people often practice NOT showing their true feelings in their eyes. Most of us get annoyed when others don't look us in the eye. We call this kind of attention "eye contact." When a person tries to get the attention of another individual or of a group, this is called "catching someone's eye." For example, in school, one girl might wear a special outfit to "catch the eye" of a boy she likes. Or, during an audition, one dancer might practice a difficult move in order to "catch the eye" of the casting director. The "catch" reference comes from fishing. When we catch a fish, we have captured it and it cannot escape. In the same way, we want to "capture" the attention of someone by "catching their eye." 作者:English 文章来源:English .net 点击数: 更新时间:2007-1-12
